LLANWERN FC v AFC LLWYDCOED 6/9/14

Llanwern gained the victory with four of the goals scored from three throw ins and a free kick. AFC Llwydcoed Manager Mr Leighton Price was without the services of goalkeeper Grant Hopkins so the ever reliable Bryan Forbes stepped in. There was also a recall for Michael Davies replacing Shaun Chappell. The Llanwern playing surface was as good as you get. superb. Llanwern were the first to threaten through Jonny Dunn, he broke through the Llwydoced shape that was cleared as it came across the goal. The hosts kept trying to open the Llwydcoed defence with diagonal balls. The visitors defenders Jordan Ellis and Luke Davies cleared the situation. Llwydcoed responded with Tomos Morris, Jordan Ellis and Michael Davies opening the Llanwern defence. It was Llanwern’s turn to attack, Llwydcoed lost possession and Llanwern threatened. Both teams were giving away possession during this early stage and then from a Llanwern attack they won a throw in into the six yard box, Llwydcoed’s defence failed to clear it and Matthew Hibbs pounced to score Llwydcoed returned to the attack and they equalised with a quality goal, first Tyler Hollidge spread an across ball to Michael Davies who found Tomos Morris, he combined with Jordan Ellis, they set up Chad Rombach who done brilliantly to set up Ricky Carter and he scored with a superb finish. More good attacking play by Llwydcoed showed promise. Llanwern responded and they won another throw in. Liam Palmer unleashed another missile throw in and this time Daniel Hooper scored. What followed was almost identical. Llwydcoed striker Ricky Carter found space in Llanwern’s defence and scored with another top finish. Could Llwydcoed learn from the previous two goals conceded, Llanwern won a free kick that Llwydcoed’s defence failed to clear and Nic Hooper scored. Could Llwydcoed equalise. They won a free kick that Ricky Carter took and it hit the cross bar. Llanwern also hit the cross bar before half time.

HT 3-2

The opening part of the second half promised so much for Llwydcoed. They began to find space with Tomos Morris combining with Garin Withers bringing Chad Rombach into play. Llanwern’s defence held firm. More good play by Llwydcoed saw them open up the Llanwern defence with Chad Rombach, Ricky Carter and Garin Withers having chances but no equaliser. Llanwern were the team who were doing most of the defending with Mike Bishop and Dominic Dwyer keeping the shape. Llwydcoed introduced substitute Carl Jenkins into the match looking to freshen things up, but it was Llanwern who scored against the run of play. They were awarded a free kick out wide that Llwydcoed failed to clear and Llanwern’s Daniel Hooper scored his second. Llwydcoed tried to reduce the score line, they had some good chances but no more goals only for Llanwern their player Jonny Dunn moved through the LLwydcoed wide defence and found Jordan Jones to finalise the scoring.
